This project was a major remodel and restoration of a classic Bellingham House.
[bundle] worked with the clients and contractors, Chuckanut Builders, walking through the house talking through design ideas prior to the purchase of the house. Rather than building new the clients decided to completely remodel the house to take advantage of the location close to the city center and other neighborhood amenities.
As the work was going to be completed in the rainy season [bundle] kept the exterior envelope of the house intact and reworked the entire floor plan, moving interior walls to make a spacious kitchen, dinning and living room. The original ceilings were extremely low so [bundle] vaulted the space adding reclaimed fir and two skylights. The original oak floors were retained and new flooring was feathered in.
[bundle] worked with many sub-contractors and designers on the project to create a holistic package. Renewood provided custom millwork out of reclaimed fir for the entire house including kitchen cabinets, master bedroom closets, spare bedroom closets and murphy bed and mudroom/cellar seating and storage. Molly Maguire Landscape Architect provided a comprehensive landscape design complete with rain gardens, outdoor patios and trellising. Ecotech provided the design and installation of the house’s PV array.
Additional work through the Community Energy Challenge included significant air sealing efforts, an HRV for balanced ventilation, a heat pump heating system, tilt turn windows and increased insulation. These efforts resulted in an 85% reduction in energy usage!
